Black Cathedral – Silver Ring with Onyx – Size 16.5

Description

A silver ring with an onyx, size 16.5, featuring a black, oval stone and an elongated, openwork setting. Here, I immediately went for a Gothic vibe. The sharp edges and openwork in the silver remind me of the windows of an old cathedral.

Onyx has a smooth, glossy surface that reflects light. Its deep black color really highlights the silver details. I like this combination because even with such an elaborate setting, everything fits together perfectly.

Gothic clearances

The setting extends above and below the stone, creating an elongated shape with two pointed ends. I left openwork cutouts in the center, and the onyx itself is held in place by four silver tips.

I wanted a design that evokes Gothic architecture but retains the irregularities of hand-shaped silver. That’s why the edges aren’t perfectly even, and the surface has tiny indentations and protrusions. Up close, you can clearly see how the light catches on individual sections.

The darker recesses accentuate the pattern, while the polished edges stand out clearly against the black onyx. It’s also worth looking at it from the side, as the openwork details continue onto the band.

How does it look on the hand?

The stone itself measures 14 × 10 mm, but the silver setting makes the entire ring appear much longer. It’s the setting that gives the ring its distinctive shape and makes it take up more space on the finger than the onyx’s dimensions would suggest.

The openwork sections reveal the skin, allowing the silver’s design to shine through. A black oval remains at the center, with delicate, openwork patterns arranged above and below it. The photos on the hand best show the proportions of the entire setting.

You can wear this silver onyx ring, size 16.5, on its own or pair it with simple wedding bands. I like it best on its own, when you can see both pointed ends and nothing hides the details. It goes perfectly with black outfits, but its shape will also stand out nicely against a light-colored sweater.
